Objective
Design a deck of playing cards that create an effective, creative and understandable system of suit, numbers, and color. The cards must have an overall theme that is demonstrated on each card while following the overall system.
Additionally, design a box for the cards that give a preview to what the cards inside will look like.
Solution
The overall theme of my cards is Alfred Hitchcock as a director. Within that theme, each suit represents a different one of his films including Psycho, The Birds, Vertigo and Rear Window. To mirror the suspenseful style of Hitchcock’s films, I created flat illustrations that represent each of the four films subtly. The idea that when you look at them alone, you might not understand the card but when viewing it as a whole the film it represents becomes clear.
The box for the cards show small glimpses to the imagery on the cards within and show the system of color and suit.
