Objective
Create a logo for a horror podcast. The logo should represent music, film and horror while also tying in with the book the podcast is inspired from.
Solution
Scored to Death is a horror podcast based on a book of the same name. The podcast’s host Blake interviews well known horror composers about music and film. It was important to the client that the logo was representational of the two aspects of the podcast, horror films and music. It was also important that the logo had multiple variations and elements to be used for marketing.
I created a film strip to house the logotype first. I used the font Albertus which was used for the original book “Scored to Death” based on its connection with horror director John Carpenter. I wanted an element that related to film, but also had room for the client to place other text related to the podcast, like the title or guest name.
The logo elements are a hatchet and a violin bow. The violin is a prevalent instrument used in horror scores and the hatchet a common weapon.
I created to the logos in a variety of color options in both regular and “grunge”. This way the client can use the variety of elements across the web to promote the podcast.
